Transitional Housing Eligibility

Employment Eligibility

Employment Eligibility

Employment Eligibility

Some programs require residents to find and keep gainful, taxed employment. Details for the vocation can be expressed on a case-by-case basis, though it is best to have a clear and concise understanding of the program mission (i.e. if the program is short-term, and specifically intended to graduate clients into a sustainable financial environment, then it is inferred that the resident will need a full-time job providing a living wage).

Employment Eligibility

Most facilities have restrictions based on gender in order to provide a safe and productive environment for their clientele. This can prove difficult for families with opposite sex parents and older aged children (14 years old and up) cohabitating with an opposite sex parent .

Accommodation for Disability/Illness

Many programs receive their funding from grants, community donations, fundraising, and religious tithing. While essential for the maintenance of the facility, this financial support can often fall short of complete funding. In this case, programs may charge a weekly "rent" in order to cover costs associated with quality care, education, and case management. If this is an undue burden, it is recommended that you inquire about Hardship Discounts or Delayed Payment options.

Accommodation for Disability/Illness

While reasonable accommodations can be made for many persons with disabilities, a vast majority of transitional housing programs have a limited scope of care that does not provide significant support for complex illnesses or disabilities.

For clients in need of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) in Oconee County, please review the availability and eligibility requirements of The Tribble Center.

For families or clients in need of mobile medical respite care, please refer to New Horizon Family Health Services, Inc.

Criminal Background

Substance Abuse or Chemical Dependency

Substance Abuse or Chemical Dependency

Most, if not all, programs will conduct a criminal background check on all applicants prior to residency. This is mostly used to restrict exposure of vulnerable populations to persons on the Sex Offender Registry. It also serves to assist in maintenance of culture within the program, preventing unnecessary risk to any/all existing clients (i.e. recent and pervasive violent criminal histories are often disqualifying). This is often considered by qualified case management specialists on a case-by-case basis.

Substance Abuse or Chemical Dependency

Most programs will require a Drug Screen prior to admittance of residency as a baseline to establish eligibility. Applicants engaging in active substance abuse are toxic to post-rehab recovery programs, and chemical dependency is often a long process involving Medically-Assisted Treatment (MAT) or a Clinically Monitored Medical Detox. Typically well outside the scope of care for the facility, these individuals are best referred to Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Programs or Detox Clinics.

Many facilities require the applicant's period of homelessness be defined via ESG Program (Emergency Solutions Grants) or CoC (Continuum of Care) funding requirements.
